Subcommittees...

The Coalition maintains and supports several standing subcommittees. The Executive Committee or the Co-Chairs may establish ad hoc committees as needed. Current standing subcommittees and their respective responsibilities are reflected to the right. Subcommittee Chairs are responsible for maintaining communication with Steering Committee members, providing regular reports at Steering Committee meetings, and providing oversight of their Subcommittee members to ensure timely completion of tasks.

 

Executive                                                                                                Act on behalf of the full Steering Committee between regularly-scheduled SC meetings; serve as the nominating committee; and, provide minutes of executive committee meetings.

Faith:

Organize religious communities in opposition to the death penalty; encourage denominations to be active within their congregations and ecumenically; and, provide resources for study and discussion to faith communities.

 

Finance:  

Develop and implement fund raising activities, including the Fall campaign, to ensure the fiscal viability of the Coalition; oversee management of Coalition funds; and, prepare and present financial reports to the Steering Committee.

 

Government:  

Review proposed legislation; arrange testimony before legislative committees; provide ongoing orientation for other Steering Committee members regarding the legislative process; organize phone, fax and e-mail trees; and, establish and maintain contacts in the state's legislative districts. The Chair will serve as a liaison with bill sponsors.

 

Media: 

Organize media coverage; develop and distribute press releases on death penalty repeal events and developments; assist with the organization and scheduling of press conferences; track articles and stories related to the death penalty and respond as appropriate, using volunteers who offer to write op-ed pieces or letters to the editor.
